Manchester United's new kit defended by female fans amid claims of sexism

The Red Devils' new women's jersey, which was released on Saturday, has drawn criticism from some supporters for its extremely low neckline 'No' seems to be the answer to the question 'is Manchester United's new women's replica shirt sexist?'

The club came under fire, accused of sexism, after it released a new women's shirt with a neckline far less modest than the men's version, the Manchester Evening News report. The men's strip has been reasonably well-received but one woman, using the name @MUnitedGirl, posted on Twitter: "Seriously Adidas? Why is the V-neck so low compared with the men's one? Some of us don't like to show cleavage. However, readers reacted mainly favourably to the new replica kit, produced under a £750m deal with Adidas."I've bought this and I love it. If women don't want the woman's shirt... Then buy the blokes 1... Simple!" commented Cat Ball on the MEN's Facebook page, attracting more than 200 likes.

Reader Nicole Bas posted this photo of her wearing the shirt.

She said: "I love my shirt. Makes a nice change as I usually feel like I'm being strangled by tshirts/football shirts. It's actually quite flattering as it's not as if they don't have the choice of buying the men's one instead."
